The rack

Twelve pieces on the rack this weekInvented example

Pick a size on any piece and it goes into your order. When you are done, one tap sends the whole list to our WhatsApp, itemised, so nobody has to retype anything.

Size guide

Measure once, over a kurta you already own

Lay it flat, measure across the chest from seam to seam, and double it. That is the number in the first column. Chikankari is cut loose on purpose — if you are between two sizes, take the smaller one.

SizeChestLengthShoulder
XS34″40″13.5″
S36″41″14″
M38″42″14.5″
L40″43″15″
XL42″44″15.5″
XXL44″45″16″

Looking after chikankari

  • Cold hand wash, on its own, for the first three washes.
  • No brush, no wringing. Press the water out flat.
  • Dry in shade — direct Lucknow sun yellows white thread.
  • Iron inside out on medium, never on the embroidery.
  • Store folded with the embroidery facing in.

Done this way a good piece lasts fifteen years and gets softer. Done in a washing machine it lasts one summer.

The workshop

Eleven karigars, one lane in ChowkInvented example

Every piece here is stitched by hand in our own workshop off Akbari Gate. No job-work sent out, no machine-run copies mixed into the rack.

Chikankari is thirty-two different stitches. Most shops use four. Our senior karigars work in murri, phanda, jaali and bakhiya on the same panel, which is why a kurta takes eleven days and costs what it costs.

We tell you which karigar made your piece. Ask, and we will send you their name and a photograph of the panel before it was cut.

What we will not do

  • Call machine embroidery “hand work”. If a piece is machine-run we label it and price it lower.
  • Quote a price only in DMs. Everything on this page has its price on it.
  • Take a full advance from a first-time customer. Half now, half on delivery.
  • Sell a size we do not have. If it is out, the button is greyed out, not hidden.

Before you order

Questions we get every week

How long does delivery take?

In Lucknow, same day if you order before 3pm. Rest of India, three to five days by Delhivery, tracked. Free over ₹3,000, otherwise ₹120.

What if the size is wrong?

Exchange within seven days, unworn and unwashed, with the tag on. We pay the return courier once. Made-to-measure and bridal pieces cannot be exchanged, which is why we ask for measurements twice.

Can you make it in my measurements?

Yes, on any kurta or bridal piece. Add ₹600 and eight days. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will send back a sketch with the numbers marked before anyone cuts anything.

Is the white always white?

No. Chikankari is traditionally white thread on pastel, and the base shade varies between dye lots. The photograph is of the actual piece you receive, not a stock image, so what you see is what is on the rack.
